The idea of Furness Childcare Limited came from Donna Duff, one of the directors and a mother of three children. She wanted to provide a childcare facility that catered for parents with varying needs and supplied a very high standard of care. She also felt that it was important to be a nursery that did not require an appointment by parents to visit and that Furness Childcare would always have a high ratio of friendly, qualified staff.
Furness Childcare facility opened in July 2003 following 2 years of hard work and planning by the nursery directors. FC was the first nursery in Cumbria to gain N.N.I. Status (find out more) and the first nursery in Cumbria to install the NurseryCAM secure internet viewing system.
Furness Childcare is registered with OFSTED for 69 children for full day care and 21 children for overnight care. With separate classrooms for different ages and an after school and holiday club, Furness Childcare welcomes children form birth to 11.

The Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative is the largest ever single investment to create new childcare places. The initiative aims to provide 45,000 new childcare places (equivalent to 900 new 50 place nurseries) to support children and families in the most disadvantaged areas of England, and tackle the lack of childcare which often prevents people from working.
The initiative seeks to be responsive to local needs and preferences. It is about more than providing quality childcare places. It is an integral part of the neighbourhood regeneration programme and works closely with other local provision such as SureStart, to offer a wider range of innovative services, including family learning.
If you would like to know more about the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative, in the first instance, you should contact your Local Authority EYDCP or the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative Helpline on : 020 7273 1103. You can, of course, contact Furness Childcare.
